Biology by Campbell et al. is the book where you get the basic skills. Always try the latest edition of the book as science in constant evolution. Now you know what the winner of the Nobel Prize? The increase in the pages of the book, of course!
Other books that you can look on the one hand, Knox et al. Biology: An Australian Focus staff and information to Scott Freeman. The latestif too much information. If you know how the books get the information you need, from giant, then pick it up, otherwise you can stay on the shelf!
Up to now we have all said about the general biology. The topics for GAMSAT thrust in this topic is in the physiology and biochemistry. Here are some books on specific topics that will help in this.

1. Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry - brilliant book (personal experience). It's huge, but you are just browsing to learn more about the book.
2. Biochemistry by Garrett and Grisham - I heard it is a fantastic book.
